Medium: Performance to Camera
For someone who has been an immigrant his whole life, land is an arbitrary concept. The memories we make on it are nothing more than a ghostly memoir frozen in time. The Story of an Unwelcomed Guest is one such memoir, a documentation of frozen time slowly melting away in a land that is no longer willing to accept me. Oman was the closest thing an immigrant like me could call home— A land with proud mountains and soothing seashores, a land of generosity and acceptance.
Through this process of mourning, the Human canvas was my only companion and witness. While I was trying to confront reality, he watched one aspect of him slowly fade away in time. The Human Canvas #3: The Human Canvas Meets the Unwelcomed Guest & The Burial is a moment of catharsis. A ritual of reliving memories, watching them fade away while trying to salvage what’s left of it. The camera stands as the only witness of this moment spent in solitude and privacy, devoid of reality as the Human Canvas and I mourn.
