கண் பேசும் வார்த்தைகள் (Kan Pesum Vaarthaigal), the language of the eyes— an expression of beauty, hope, femininity and strength. The title is inspired by lyricist Na Muthukumar’s song of the same name. This series is, in many ways, a spinoff of my previous works in The Forbidden Gaze. However, கண் பேசும் வார்த்தைகள் (Kan Pesum Vaarthaigal) is rooted in the beauty of my mother tongue Tamil. This series drawing its essence from Tamil film songs— my introduction to the beauty of the language. It is about pinpointing the poetic structures of the songs and marrying them to visual imagery. These images and their opposing gazes talk to us, and the songs help us navigate that language.

Written by the great lyricist Vairamuthu, this song is about the inseparability in duality, illusions and deceit. What you see is not always what it seems and behind her illusions and deceit, there is a truth that only her eyes can tell.

In the midst of hope, strength and femininity, there is an existential dread. This piece captures that moment—the shimmer in her eyes questions the gruesome world around her.
